Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Belayr at belayr.io. By creating an account you agree to them. Read the first section even if you read nothing else.

What Belayr is not

Your account

You are responsible for the device you sign in on and for your recovery code, which is the only way back into your account. Anyone holding it can sign in as you. Whenever it is used on a new device, Belayr texts your emergency contacts to say so, and signs the old device out. It cannot text you, because whoever just used the code may be holding your phone.

Your emergency contacts

You may only list someone who has agreed to be listed, and you must have their permission to give us their mobile number. Belayr sends them nothing until they agree on the link you send them, and will not start a timer until one has, but that check does not replace your obligation to ask them first. They may decline or opt out at any time.

The safe word

Your safe word is sent to your contacts so they can ask for it. If you check in with the wrong word, Belayr treats it as duress: it alerts your contacts and shows you exactly what a normal check-in shows, so that anyone watching your screen learns nothing. Understand what that means before relying on it, and note that Belayr cannot tell a genuine duress signal from a typo.

Text message program

Belayr texts you, only if you agree to texts, with a confirmation, a warning before your contacts are alerted, and news about your contacts. Agreeing is optional and is not a condition of using Belayr. If you text Belayr a number of minutes to add time to a running timer, it replies once. It texts your emergency contacts only after they agree on its confirmation page: a confirmation; an alert if you do not check in, press the panic button or signal for help with a duress check-in, and a text when it is over; a practice alert when you run a test; a text checking their number still works, if one to them failed and you ask; and notices when the arrangement changes. Message frequency varies with how often you arm a timer. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, START to opt back in, HELP for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. For help, email support@belayr.io or call (314) 384-8947. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Acceptable use

Do not use Belayr to send messages to people who have not agreed to receive them, to harass, track or surveil anyone without their knowledge, or to defeat its own safeguards. Accounts that do will be closed.

No warranty

Belayr is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, timely or error free.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, twoplus11 LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any harm arising from a message that was delayed, undelivered or not acted on. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Belayr in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes and termination

We may change these terms, and will change the date at the top when we do. You may stop using Belayr and delete your account at any time. We may close an account that breaks these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, United States, and any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Missouri.
